How to Trust Your Intuition When Logic Isn't Enough

By Kristy Parke | Radiant Life Consulting

You've made the pros and cons list.
You've asked everyone's opinion.
You've analyzed it from every angle. And you still don't know what to do.

Your logic has taken you as far as it can go. Now you need something else.

It's time to engage your intuition.

But if you're like most people, you've spent years being told to "be logical," "think it through," and "don't be emotional." So when it's time to listen to your gut, you don't know how.

Let's explore!

What Intuition Actually Is (And Isn't)

First, let's clear up what intuition is NOT:

  • It's not magical thinking or wishful hoping
  • It's not ignoring facts or being irrational
  • It's not the same as impulsive reactions or fear
  • It's not something only "special people" have

Intuition is your deeper knowing. It's the wisdom that comes from:

  • Your body's intelligence (felt sense, gut feelings)
  • Your subconscious pattern recognition (your brain processing information you're not consciously aware of)
  • Your energetic sensitivity (picking up on things beyond the five senses)
  • Your connection to something larger (call it Source, Universe, God, or simply your higher self)

Everyone has intuition. Most people just don't know how to hear it anymore.

Why You Can't Hear Your Intuition

There are three main reasons you've lost touch with your inner knowing:

1. You've Been Trained to Override It

From childhood, you learned that logic, reason, and "thinking things through" are superior to feelings, hunches, and gut instincts.

You were told:

  • "Don't be so emotional"
  • "That doesn't make sense"
  • "You're being irrational"
  • "Think with your head, not your heart"

So you learned to ignore the quiet voice inside that knows things your mind doesn't.

2. You're Too Busy to Hear It

Intuition is quiet. It doesn't shout.

When you're constantly busy; scrolling, working, consuming content, staying distracted, you can't hear the subtle signals.

Your intuition speaks in:

  • Body sensations (tightness in your chest, expansion in your heart)
  • Sudden knowing (thoughts that arrive fully formed)
  • Images or symbols (things that catch your attention)
  • Feelings without obvious cause (unease, excitement, peace)

But you'll never notice these if you're never still.

3. You Don't Trust It Anymore

Maybe you followed your gut once and it didn't work out. Or you ignored your intuition and regretted it. Either way, you stopped trusting yourself.

Here's the truth: your intuition was probably right, but your interpretation might have been off. Yikes. I know...

Learning to trust your intuition is a skill. And like any skill, it gets better with practice.

How to Start Hearing Your Intuition Again

Step 1: Create Space to Listen

You can't hear your intuition in the middle of scrolling, working, or staying busy.

Try this:

  • Set a timer: (This is my favorite for beginners) set a timer for 5 minutes and commit to sitting still until it goes off. Everythig else can wait. Just practive getting through this short time without jumping up to do something else. Next time, set the timer for 7 minutes, then 10 and so on until you find a comfortable legth that gives you time to listen to your SELF.
  • Walks without podcasts: Let your mind wander. Notice what bubbles up.
  • Sitting in nature: Even 10 minutes of being still and observing
  • Body scan meditation: Notice sensations without judging them

The goal isn't to "find answers." It's just to create space where answers can emerge.

Step 2: Learn Your Body's Yes and No

Your body knows things before your mind does.

To find your body's "yes":
Think of something you absolutely want, something that lights you up. Notice what happens in your body. Expansion? Warmth? Lightness? That's your yes.

To find your body's "no":
Think of something you definitely don't want. Notice what happens. Contraction? Heaviness? Tightness? That's your no.

Now when you're making a decision, tune into your body:

  • When you imagine Option A, what happens?
  • When you imagine Option B, what happens?

Your body will tell you before your mind figures it out.

Step 3: Distinguish Between Fear and Intuition

This is where most people get stuck. They think their intuition is telling them "no" when it's actually just fear.

Here's how to tell the difference:

Fear says:
"This is dangerous. Don't do it."
(Accompanied by panic, spiraling thoughts, worst-case scenarios)

Intuition says:
"This isn't right for you." and will often provide another path.
(Accompanied by quiet certainty, no drama, no story)

Fear is loud, dramatic, and story-filled.
Intuition is quiet, certain, and neutral.

Fear makes you feel panicked.
Intuition makes you feel clear (even if what it's telling you is uncomfortable).

Step 4: Start Small

Don't start by trying to make your biggest life decision using intuition.

Start with low-stakes choices:

  • Which route to take home
  • What to eat for dinner
  • Whether to go to that event

Notice what your intuition says. Follow it. See what happens.

As you build trust with small decisions, you'll be able to hear your intuition more clearly on bigger ones.

Step 5: Track Your Hits and Misses

If it suits you, keep a journal of times when you:

  • Followed your intuition and what happened
  • Ignored your intuition and what happened
  • Thought it was intuition but it was actually fear

Over time, you'll start to recognize the difference. You'll see patterns. You'll learn your intuition's language.

What If You Still Can't Hear It?

Some blocks to intuition are harder to clear on your own:

  • Deeply ingrained patterns of self-doubt
  • Energetic blocks from past experiences
  • Trauma that makes it unsafe to feel
  • Mental noise that's too loud to see past

This is where working with someone trained in accessing intuition can help.

As an intuitive coach, I help people:

  • Clear what's blocking their inner knowing
  • Learn to distinguish between fear and intuition
  • Access guidance they can't reach on their own
  • Trust what they're hearing

Think of it like this: you have a radio inside you, but the signal is too weak or too cluttered to hear clearly. I help you tune in.

When to Trust Your Intuition Over Logic

Here's the rule: Use both, but know when each one is appropriate.

Use logic for:

  • Data-driven decisions (buying a car, choosing insurance)
  • Technical problems with clear solutions
  • Situations where facts are knowable and relevant

Use intuition for:

  • Life direction decisions (career changes, relationships)
  • Choosing between "good" options where logic is neutral
  • Timing (when to make a move, when to wait)
  • People (who to trust, who to avoid)
  • Situations where you have all the facts but still don't know what to do

The best decisions use BOTH. Logic gets you to the shortlist. Intuition tells you which option is actually right for YOU.

The Truth About Trusting Yourself

Here's what I know after years of helping people access their intuition:

You already know the answer.

You might not like it. You might wish it were different. You might be afraid of what it means.

But somewhere inside you, you know.

The question isn't "What should I do?"

The question is: "Am I willing to hear what I already know?"

What If You're Ready to Listen?

If you're reading this and thinking, "I know I have intuition but I can't access it"—that's exactly what I help with.

Through intuitive guidance, energy medicine, and practical coaching, we'll:

  • Clear what's blocking your inner knowing
  • Help you distinguish between fear and intuition
  • Strengthen your ability to hear and trust yourself
  • Create practical next steps based on what emerges

You don't have to figure this out alone.
